*sweeping all my other OCs off the table* okay so back in like 2018 I had this idea for a cocky Blaziken gal who wears her former-trainer’s undersized jacket, which left the notion of what happened to said trainer up in the air for a while. then a while later I got the idea for a nocturnal Lycanroc that shifts between day- and night-forms with the rising and setting sun. so I retconned it that the Blaziken’s trainer got isekai’d into the Mystery Dungeon universe but the process Messed Things Up A Little which is why they’re the way they are. and I kinda left that on the wayside but I kept getting art of my kicky chicken, and you can only get so many fighting-poses of a character who wears a hat and an open jacket before you realize that you’ve just made a Terry. then the pandemic hit and I got into Garou because I sure as hell wasn’t going to leave my house, and I started writing an anthro gym-rat Mightyena with washboard abs and a varsity-style jacket because I Have A Type, and then he kinda turned into a rivals-turned-sparring-partners for my Blaziken, which is kind of Rock Howard’s whole thing as well, and so. and so.

@root asked:

what was your first fursona? do you have any remaining attachment to them or element of their design or character concept that has carried through to today?

My first fursona was a brown dragon, originally conceived by @tabbiewolf around 2002, apropos of nothing and based on a photo of myself from the website for a TFC/CS team I used to be a member of. The character was named “Phenoix,” after a photo of a misspelled Phoenix road-sign that’d circulated on some early unattributed-viral-images website. I went through a couple of other OCs before switching fully to Clover in 2014, but Phen was the most “this is just a Furry Me” representation throughout that whole period. This drawing was done by @lobst in mid-2007, about a year before we’d started dating.

Nothing about Phen’s design has carried through to my present-day OCs, aside from the broader notion of a character having one style of outfit that they’re always drawn wearing. The Katamari Damacy shirt pictured here is still in my active wardrobe; I don’t think I could throw it out.
