What’s an underrated design aspect for a fursona in your eyes? What’s something you notice and appreciate that you don’t always see in ‘em?

I’m gonna give you two.
1. countershaded digits. This is something I can trace back to one of my first furry crushes, and it’s especially good for art where a character’s mitts or paws are a focal point. Trent (shown above, cropped from art by floe) was built around “here’s a bunch of stuff Clover likes,” which is why they’re also like that.
2. forepaws-as-hands. Bernard Doove’s An Introduction To Chakats has a whole thing about chakat front paws and how they can be used as both feet and hands as needed and have a big clumsy grip. I just think they’re neat.

What was not maybe the moment you realized you were trans, but the moment you think had the most profound effect on you? Some people don't have that moment until after they're already on the path, others had it decades before? What is, to you, that paradigm-shifting memory?

The question of “when did I start taking estrogen” has a much more concrete answer than “when did I start transitioning socially” versus “when did I become aware that I’d already been socially transitioning and just didn’t realize it,” so I really like the qualifier on this ask.

It was VRChat, for sure. By the time I got into it, Meelo had already put out a raccoon model that was free to download, and it was trivial enough to re-texture that model into Trent, my raccfox character. The Unity package included both a “male” and “female” version, and it was equally trivial to add some eyeliner and lip-line to the texture I’d already made. I can trace thoughts of “what if my fursona was a gal” back to college if not earlier, but embodying that avatar — seeing her move in the mirror when I moved, seeing her body when I looked down at myself — flipped a switch in my brain.

The screenshot above is dated October 29, 2020, five months before I made the call to Planned Parenthood and started down that path.
