man what determines the vibe of whether people choose to rechost with a comment or comment directly on the post? i tend to just comment on the post because everyone can see it easier, and rechost without comment. i also tended to lean toward commenting on posts over sharing them on pillowfort too when i used it.

rechosts confuse me even more than tumblr reblogs because you can't see other rechosts or their comments outside of your chain for some reason, but i see some nice conversations and contributions within rechost chains more than i do in comment chains?

idk do other people have factors that contribute to which they do per post? do they think about this at all

in reply to @pieartsy's post:

after using tumblr for a million years i mostly just do it on instinct/whim so my decisions probably aren't entirely consistent with my logic but

direct comment: i have something to say directly to the person who made this post. somewhat conversational, i don't really expect other people to join in (though i'm not upset if they do)

rebugged with comment: i have Opinions on the above post that i wish to submit to the Public Discussion. these are not always important or well thought out and sometimes are just silly jokes. but it's not very conversational. i know people sometimes have conversations in posts and that's fine but it feels to me like standing up on the stage in a tiny venue and just having a chat with your friend. like what are you doing up there? everyone is staring. aren't you self conscious.

rebugged with comment in tags (a further complication): i have Opinions(/jokes) on the above post but i do not wish to submit these to public discussion. they are one-off comments or more personal. someone is up on stage saying stuff and i turn to comment to a friend about it.
