playing around with music that can still work even if things aren't technically in time with each other! theoretically, you should be able to play any of these layers, in any combination/order, at any time, and it should still sound good. hopefully??

Inspired by Megan's awesome interactive audio post, I decided to dig up some old audio files from Depression Quest, since the audio on the game website has been broken for several years.

The way this would work is that the piano track would play most of the time, and then other ambiences would enter and exit based on encountering various locations/events. We were working with an early version of Twine so the audio capabilities were pretty limited. For example, we had no precise control over timing, so it was an interesting challenge to make these snippets all work together no matter where they might be found.

There were many more ambiences in the actual game but cohost (sensibly) caps out at 4 audio files per post so this is what you get!
