Over the Moebius Skies

Fond of yuri and giant robots. Char Aznable's Pet Eevee, for better or for worse. Probably for worse.

Char's "she could have been like a mother to me" line is memed a lot (and I understand) but I think what he really wants is someone to love him, and he doesn't know how to say that normally because he has problems and trauma.

He kills or drives away his friends and allies. He does not stay in any romantic relationships for long. He's estranged from his sister. And he feels empty. So where does he get unconditional love from? He must get it from a mother, because mothers unconditionally love, right?

So his last line feels like a plea for that. That's what I get from it, anyway. He wants attention and thrill and he wants someone to love him even though he's such an asshole. That's the tragedy of his life.

i think a lot about how he Almost Gets It at the end. when the Neo-Zeon and Federation troops are pushing Axis, he says he feels warm, comfortable, and for a moment you think he might actually process what it means to be connected to the people around you, to understand and be understood in turn. but in the end, he can't do it. that fascist drive, the contradictory desire for a mother figure to comfort him while he commits acts of incredible violence to feel powerful, wins out, and he spends his final moments angry and unhappy because of it. it feels like an encapsulation of his arc through Zeta and CCA, where through a combination of tragic circumstance and the way the dude is wired, he just can't stay in the headspace that being in the AEUG asked of him
