it was august 4th, 2022 when we finished this post on tumblr, and we made these tags and this draft supposedly on the 22nd of july. let's get to it.
people seem to consider nihilism some end- thing. they see it as a rock bottom state of being, which their fragile illusion of a "default" mindset can never indulge in on any level. we beg to argue that nihilism as a school of thought is just an acknowledgement of the bitter effects of a foul, widespread desire shaping today's society. That desire being, for nihilism to be true.
sameness has an allure. make no mistake. it is in the nature of thinking beings to desire security in their lifestyle. our minds suffer without something stable. we will not berate that desire. far be it from us to discount it's importance. the desire for certainty becomes a desire for truth in nihilism, however, when refusing change comes at the expense of others.
nihilism is the belief that nothing matters. therefore, pushing for nothing to have an effect is a push for nihilism.
at one point several years ago, we became what most people would define as a nihilist. we took on the belief that nothing really mattered, and it was only through our resulting pain surrounding this idea that we were able to not only realize why we became like that, but also start a journey towards a different extreme.
we were overwhelmed. we were at a low in our mental health. for one thing, because we were being actively traumatized in our home life. for another, the fact that there is injustice on every level of society and that there is many people who choose to indulge their selfishness to make it all like this, had truly begun to sink in. on every level both concievable at the time and not, we were coming to grips with circumstances entirely out of our control.
even when our immediate home circumstances saw significant improvement, we remained in that nihilism for a while. it wasn't until we were either nearly done being 18 or just starting on 19 (time has lost meaning for us, but think circa start of covid) that we noticed the pattern which made us think nothing mattered in the first place. actions we took just to find security in our own life disrupted the excessive ego boosting of those with power over us. thanks to this realization, we began to find the other extreme. we found the truth that people are so unwilling to accept.
the truth is, everything matters. many people just don't want it to. They don't want change for better or worse. they want control, and they want the circumstances that make them feel like they have maximum control, so they create a world where nothing will matter.
acknowledging that everything matters is an extreme, sacrificial act, but it is a cleansing act, and one necessary to have a life that is better than one might ever think possible.
