came up in conversation thinking about the earliest art i did, above are four images from around then dated July 7, July 11, July 17, and Sept 15 of 2018

i got a bug to draw and have a creative outlet after i went to a roger mcguinn concert and between the songs he talked about his life, his career, and his creative life as it were, and his need for a creative outlet. i had drawn some as a kid, but hadn't done anything in easily over a decade by this point

i can't recall exactly what all he had to say, but i'd like to think that after spending mid 2018 to the end of 2020 drawing in fits and starts and keeping myself to "at least one thing a month", before then in january of 2021 starting drawing every single day, that i've found a good creative outlet in my life

the first thing i did was of @cainamar with him holding his own arm up in thumbs up, i had just gone to the concert a few days earlier and ordered a tablet but it hadn't arrived, so this was done with just the touchpad on my laptop

the next pictured was a drawover of a screengrab from the smooth criminal video, again of @cainamar and also of skdaffle and geccpls. i did a number of drawover which have become a staple of memery as i go on

next pictured is when i got to drawing without it being a drawover i went for the gratuitous pawshot as the first thing i tried truly linelessly, mostly trying to learn about lighting (which i still have much to learn about)

final pictured was me drawing over a picture graciously provided by @RaddaReep which also featured him. this one also featured the first time i drew pinball the character, though i hadn't adopted the name or him as a fursona at the time! this is the earliest version of the cat out there, and i made some subtle changes myself and another by suggestion from @lennoxwoof before settling on what i have now :3

anyway this isn't going anywhere, just wanted to write up about some of the earliest stuff i'd done, and why i started even if it's superficial in retrospect. i tend to cap out each year by posting one thing from each month i like, and to compare to past years. this year i might remake the past years' posts on cohost before making one for 2022, so it's all together for easy comparison
