recently picked up a cross-stitch project that i abandoned about 10 years ago and it’s really nice to do some handcraft again! however, i’ve really really been struggling with bunching in the back and accidentally piercing the fabric instead of finding the hole in the aida.
i finally went to the internet and looked it up last night and realized two major mistakes:
- i’ve been using all 6 strands of my embroidery floss instead of the 2 strands typical for cross-stitching, essentially forcing 3x the thread through a tiny hole.
- i’ve been using a standard sewing needle instead of a tapestry needle with a blunted tip to prevent me from threading somewhere besides the hole.
what’s more, i’ve been working on a little black aida coin purse, which is not rigid and has a wonky shape around the edge where the zipper goes. i am a total novice to the craft and i’ve spent dozens of hours doing this shit on hard mode.
i think i’m gonna get myself a sampler and try to relearn the basics lol
