Of the bigger, corporate games websites, Waypoint was one of the few places left offering up real criticism on a regular basis, even if the slashing of their freelance budget a few years ago already cut them deep. It truly blows to see them go out like this.
Games crit will remain and is probably in a stronger place than ever, with smaller sites and blogs like Bullet Points and Uppercut Crit doing fantastic work still. But it still sucks to see larger sites pulling back on or even eliminating great teams as soon as the money crunchers see the chance. Shit year for games journalism.
Anyway, thank you Ren, Cado, Patrick and Rob for your work at Waypoint. Heck, thank you to all prior staff as well, I wouldn't have found the place if it wasn't for e.g. Danielle and Austin. You're all amazing, I wish you the best for the future.
