Do you know if the remakes are any good, or should I find an original?
i think the remake is decent!, most of the backgrounds were redraw(instead of upscalled) if i recall correctly and the game enemies are a little bit more difficult, just the price is a little too high imo though ushausa.
(also if i remember correctly the japanese PS1 version of the game had more difficult enemies than the english version and for the remake the enemy difficulty from the jpn was maintaned :p)
