What's your plan besides voting? When gerrymandering or rigged courts make it useless, when those you voted for decide your rights and communities are absolutely expendable, what are you going to do?

This is not intended to score points. The answers do not need to be public. It is simply something all of us need to seriously think about yet gets far, far too little attention.

This question is brought to you by over two decades covering politics, living in North Carolina and the fact that tear gas fired by liberal governments burns just as much.

Great question, and I’ve got no good answers. Best things I can think of are either committing oneself to a community support network, so your community could eat and be sheltered without reliance on a terrible local, state, national government. Or committing yourself to a local and very focused political action group, so a specific policy or structural change could happen in your neighborhood or city.

Issue is neither of these are world saving, and require time commitments much greater than voting, time which most folks needing to make rent don’t have.

As someone in poverty, I can say that while a real commitment community support networks also save me a considerable amount of time and, if working well, help make it possible for a lot of us struggling to make rent to do some other things too.
