guesses:
- he was telling them they have defenses against competitors that they don't actually have. (see the leaked "we have no moat" memo from, iirc, google?)
- the picture he'd painted for them of how much better their current bread and butter approach would get in the future, and how quickly it would get there, fell totally apart, leaving them with no good story to tell.
- he was telling them he had a clear roadmap to "AGI" but doesn't / it's a total boondoggle.
- he was lying about something trivially verifiable, eg how much it was costing to run, how much it cost to continue scaling up, etc.
sadly not on the list: the sexual abuse allegations made by his sister, which are distressing and sad but almost certainly not enough to cause enough of a scandal for SV investor ghouls to consider a mark against his character, even if more sordid details came out.
regardless, seems like there's a decent chance he pivots deeper into the "doomer + hype" space. his keeping a private compound and stockpiling shit is evidence that he has some very deeply held irrational beliefs about his importance, how collapses work, etc etc. which made him completely untrustworthy as any sort of "prophet" especially about his own fucking product, but that's never a red flag for investors for some reason, hmmm. it's almost like this shit all runs 100% on vibe readings by terrible human beings.
