sure I guess it's great that adult fans of lego have kept the company solvent or whatever the fuck but my 3.5 year old child is starting to enjoy lego and so I go to the brand new lego store in town, and it's like 90% licensed sets and 60% Adult Sets like damn dude I just want to get like a generic castle or pirate set at his level instead 3000 piece star war ship fuck set

Try your local target-type store for kids sets, but IME most of them are licensed media nowadays.
it's just their whole catalog. for the same price I've just been buying old complete sets on Bricklink
Yeah, used is the way to go with LEGOs. We're blessed at the library with a big donated bin of loose parts. We have duplo out all day for the little ones, but I have a weekly program where kids get to play with it. It's delightful :)
They're all early 90s pieces and there are a ton of bionicles parts. The elementary age kids are like "why don't they make these any more?" Beats me, pals. They're still sick as hell!
