one of my favorite things about interacting with fictives is saying things like "a dave" or "a murrit" or "a twilight sparkle"
I think something that really gets on my nerves is that a lot of people deride HOMESTUCK 8ecause of feelings that typically 8oil down to "it's cringe."1
first off: it's 2023 and everyone really has to get their heads out of their asses regarding "cringe". cringe is f8ke, guilty pleasures are f8ke, it's all f8ke. someone else trying to m8ke you feel 8ad for enjoying something reflects more on them than it does on you.
second: I can only speak for a moder8ly small sample size, 8ut people owe a lot of self-discovery to HOMESTUCK! there are people who realized they're queer, or trans, or plural, or otherkin 8ecause of HOMESTUCK, 8ecause that's what good, meaningful media does! it worms into our MINDS and HEARTS and changes us!!!!!!!! and HOMESTUCK went so long that a lot of its original readers grew up with it, changed with it, discovered themselves 8ecause of it and watched characters discover themselves too. I'm willing to 8et that, for every one person that calls HOMESTUCK "cringe", there are a dozen who came out as queer or trans 8ecause of it, who figured out they're plural 8ecause of it, who realized they're not human 8ecause of it.
I can say this with some confidence 8ecause 8efore we read HOMESTUCK, alphy was staunchly holding to "defin8ly a 8inary trans woman, defin8ly human," and that was hurting it. 8eing a8le to not only finally engage with HOMESTUCK, 8ut also 8eing a8le to do it with friends and without judgement for enjoying it, honestly m8de alphy realize how much it was holding 8ack 8y trying to keep itself in the 8ox it put itself in.
and that's to say nothing a8out how many mem8ers of Tautology come from HOMESTUCK or GODFEELS or VAST ERROR. (hi! I'm JUNE EG8ERT-TAUTOLOGY, nice to meet you all!)
it's my 8irthday and it's honestly a real kick in the 8alls to 8e reminded, on what should 8e a fun day, that so many people h8 where I'm from just 8ecause it exists and people enjoy it really strongly.
I don't expect that I'm going to change anyone's mind with this, 8ecause they'll see the tag and the Courier typeface and just completely discount anything I'm saying.
8ut I wanted to say it 8ecause it needed to 8e said.
