Why is discord removing their username system? There's nothing wrong with it. "People have to remember a number :-(" big whoop. You actually have a system that is immediately recognizable. And you avoid people fighting over the same username for the most part. It's fine. Hell you even get to upsell people on being able to put funny numbers behind their name!
But no, gotta go be like twitter. Gotta have people fighting over handles.
Look I know I'm change adverse but I really don't see the fucking point of this other than trying to get in the news cycle. If so... sure, whatever. You did it. Congrats.

EDIT 2: This would actually be really funny if they lose a ton of nitro subs because people just wanted to be MilfMaster#6969 and @MilfMaster just won't do.
EDIT 3: Now related to my previous post, I realize this must be a diversion tactic for more AI bot bullshit changes. Absolutely zero source, citation, or any real evidence for that. I'm just expecting companies to behave like ActiBlizz now.
