I find it funny that VHS-C being able to play back in a normal VHS player is almost a downside of the format now, as I'd wager that more people are likely to have a CRT than a VCR at this point.
I was going to make a comment about how I bet most VHS-C camcorders don't even have AV out because of that, but that's completely wrong. I'm sure some didn't but a quick peek on electronic bay shows most have a video output on them.
The upside is, if you're still interested in recording video on analogue tape in 2023, a VHS-C camcorder is probably just as fine. Only real downside is the recording time.
