I occasionally write long posts but you should assume I'm talking out of my ass until proved otherwise. I do like writing shit sometimes.

50/50 chance of suit pictures end up here or on the Art Directory account. Good luck.

Be 18+ or be gone you kids act fuckin' weird.

I tag all of my posts complaining about stuff #complaining, feel free to muffle that if you'd like a more positive cohost experience.

Can someone please explain to me why "Infinity focus" is a thing? Like why does a lens sometimes need to not be able to focus? Isn't it something about how much light goes in? Why do some cameras or lenses focus on such a narrow range while others just go "hehe no blur allowed"? That makes no sense.

Like I could google this sure but I like the organic interaction of it. Asking stupid questions is fun.

in reply to @plumpan's post:

"infinite focus" lenses just mean they're intended for medium to long distance shots. if you tried to take an up-close shot of, say, a flower with one of those lenses, you'd either need to back way up to get even the flower in full shot let alone in focus, or you'd just get a blurry shot. macro lenses are designed for those up close shots so you can get right next to the object you're shooting and still have the full subject in frame and in focus. ultimately, it's all because of limitations of the medium. you can't really have one lens that can do close-up macros and medium or long distance shots because of how lenses work.

but im also just a hobbyist, somebody who knows more than me could get into the molecular specifics

Yeah, I mean there's also stuff that just can have a LOT of range all in focus, and other stuff that can not. I know it's got something to do with light and optics but, well above my head.

I did have this back on my mind because one of my camcorders came with a macro-y lens and it's got a super narrow focus range, as one would expect.
