I think the reason "AI", or various machine learning nonsense, is so scary from a worker perspective isn't because it's capable of doing the same or better job as a human. It will be capable of doing a bad job and the companies that would use it are happy to take that and use it to put out a bad product for the same price or more.
EDIT: Or most likely use it as another excuse to do terrible things. "I didn't do this terrible thing, the computer did!" he says, knowing damn well what the computer was doing.
