I once played MK8(D????) at a party, where there were multiple people playing local plus online, and it was some mode that was effectively "keep the it" with a shines sprite. I had never played 8 before until that day, did a few races where I didn't do too hot because it doesn't feel like double dash and that's all I know.
I punked everyone in that mode hard, absolutely clowned them. For sure skills (big big yomi) that carried over from Forza back in the day, but still a massive achievement to walk into a game and make everyone look like they don't know how to play.
I declared at that point I shouldn't play again, because there's no topping that peak.
I remember the map had this like, round fountain type thing, and I remember doing a full rotation or two drifting around this little fountain and no one expecting me to just... keep going around it.
