I occasionally write long posts but you should assume I'm talking out of my ass until proved otherwise. I do like writing shit sometimes.

50/50 chance of suit pictures end up here or on the Art Directory account. Good luck.

Be 18+ or be gone you kids act fuckin' weird.

I tag all of my posts complaining about stuff #complaining, feel free to muffle that if you'd like a more positive cohost experience.

Perhaps in the more literal sense. I've always seen myself as, maybe not being entirely lacking in creativity but certainly on the lower half of things and for sure lacking the kind of mental workings to be able to turn them into tangible creations for others to see or hear. Some of my friends may argue otherwise but, this is one thing I'll put my foot down and say that I know myself better than they do.

That being said, I've realized recently at least one small aspect of creative ability that I lack, and an example of what it's like based on something I'm actually capable of. I've done a fair bit of DJing, with a much heavier focus on the actual mixing part rather than reading the crowd, a result of being such a shut-in. I'd like to think my mixing ability has gotten quite good however, and starting a year or two ago I realized I've sort of gotten an ability to know if two songs sound right overlapped without actually trying it. My head can, kind of put the two together and spit out a "yes/no" as to if the key and/or tonal qualities of the song will work.

This is fun as hell. As someone that could never play an instrument, never learned any music theory, and for sure can't name a note that I hear, this feels like some kinda superpower. It's not 100%, and I can't go as far as actually mixing two songs completely in my head, but on a number of occasions I've heard a song and my brain has pulled another one up and gone "hey these would sound great together huh?" and I'm just kind of left dumbfounded. Obviously, this us a much more useful thing to be able to do while mixing.

The reason I bring this up is, I've learned that something I'm NOT good at is predicting if colors work together in art. Just can't do it. Even if I pull up an image editor and throw some colors next to each other, I do not understand how shading can come into play and all the visual tricks involved. I gotta lean pretty heavily on artists to sort this out for me, and I feel like an ability to know how colors go together is a pretty fundamental part of doing visual art.

So, I think I can now see that problem from both perspectives. If you know how to do it, it really is just something your brain can fill in. If you don't, it's an utter blind spot. The kind of thing you can't tangibly work out, at best you know that you don't know it.

That ended up kind of ramble-y but I found it interesting.
