So the latest Hot Rumor is that Luca Marini is going to take Marc Marquez' open seat at Honda. Which is pretty wild. What I found much more interesting, were some of the quotes.

"And I'm happy for Luca. With Luca I've always had a very good relationship, and this is the good thing. We must separate the things, and I'm happy for him."

Marquez made it clear later on that "we must separate the things" was indeed a reference to Rossi.

"I have a very good relationship with him," Marquez said of Marini.

"We separate, and this is good that we separate of course... it's not new, with Valentino we don't have a good relationship, but with Marini yes.

Luca wasn't talking about the rumors yet and thus did not comment on the relationship, and I see no reason why Marc would just lie about getting on with someone, so I'll take this at face value. The background you need to know here is that Valentino Rossi is Luca's brother and Marc and Valentino used to be kinda buddies but are now very much not. I'd put a bit more of that beef going from Valentino to Marc than the other way around but, they fell out really hard.

It's interesting to see this kind of relationship out in the wild. "Yeah we get on just fine despite him also being close with person we really hate." I feel like everyone ends up in a situation like this at some point in their life, but it's still interesting to see that in like, top level sports. Luca rides for a team owned and named after his brother, and he's allegedly planning on moving to the team that Marc has basically headed for the past decade. Marc is already on his way out, and Valentino retired a couple of years ago, but are you going to potentially sour your career because of someone else's beef? Not that anyone really understands the logic behind swapping to Honda at this point in time, it's a big downgrade from where he is now.

I guess it's just nice to see people at least sometimes acting reasonable to each other. "I'm not going to hate you as a person just because someone else in my family does." In sports there's a lot of shitty things that people do with the sporting aspects as an excuse, it's REAL bad in F1 and we've seen some of that bleed over into MotoGP lately, particularly with teams being very disrespectful towards riders (hi KTM), so even small things like this are refreshing. One of the reasons I started watching MotoGP was that it still held a lot of that human aspect. Fighting as hard as you can with someone on the track, one of the riders accidentally going off and taking the other with them, both barrel rolling through the gravel and still going over to check that the other person was ok instead of to gesticulate or shout at them. That's the kind of stuff I like to see, keeping shit in perspective.

And also Iannone headbutting someone in that situation. Absolute nutter.
