Automatic lights and wipers should be a fucking required standard. My late 90s corolla had most of the bells and whistles and it had automatic headlights. On a fucking 20 year old shitbox. There's NO reason why automatic headlights should not be a standard safety feature in cars sold. It's fucking stupid. A wonderful example of how every car company will happily take your wallet off your cold, dead body if they could. Stop fucking worshiping them because you think a car is pretty.

Cars 20 years ago had automatic wipers, no reason why that shouldn't be the standard as well.

Obviously none of this shit requires any cutting edge technology, it's easy to design, implement, and repair.

in reply to @Adell's post:

so, i have the deep shame and regret of having purchased a tesla years ago. they don't have a physical button to turn on the windshield wipers. so it's easiest to set them in auto, but ofc the ai is also really bad and so they randomly turn on and off when they hallucinate rain (or fail to see actual precipitation). you can also try to set them using voice commands, in which case have fun clearly enunciating voice commands while shouting over a thunderstorm

the ux and engineering quality is atrocious

manually opening the doors is a lever; it's not hard to do or access, if you know it's there.

naturally, it isn't very obvious and most people take a few minutes to find it, which could be deadly in an emergency situation.

they are, however, somehow still more discoverable than the actual "normal operation" button to open the doors with power. which would be fine, except if passengers use the manual release unnecessarily it's not great because it can damage the windows.

it's absurd
