I occasionally write long posts but you should assume I'm talking out of my ass until proved otherwise. I do like writing shit sometimes.

50/50 chance of suit pictures end up here or on the Art Directory account. Good luck.

Be 18+ or be gone you kids act fuckin' weird.

I tag all of my posts complaining about stuff #complaining, feel free to muffle that if you'd like a more positive cohost experience.

The reason why I get so uppity about hard drive stuff is hard drive companies are doing multiple things as bad as "intel skylake refresh version 5" or "nvidia deciding new almost nonexistent feature means card 30% more expensive" and no one else seems to care.

and like y'know thinking about how bad some computers bits are is, on the whole, way less of a mental health debuff than thinking about how bad damn near everything else is. if you ever think I ignore it, I sure as hell don't, I just have nothing helpful/useful to say about it and I'd like to try and remain mentally functional.

I'm gonna go stare at my old TV some more. I love that thing.

When YouTube channels (particularly Gamers Nexus) make a point of saying that some storage fucking sucks, I absolutely believe them BUT the fact there's no channel actually dedicated to buying the testing equipment and taking the time to measure that in NUMBERS feels like a massive niche that could be filled by some eccentric millionaire if they really wanted to.

Like, the fact it's a very expensive niche thing to actually prove scientifically is probably the biggest reason why a lot of Tech People either don't care or just provide blanket statements; but frankly the niche is there and I'm surprised nobody's yet pounced on it.

It's not that hard to get good performance numbers, anandtech at least until somewhat recently would still do some decent SSD tests and were one of the big leaders of extensive SSD testing back in the day. Storagereview exists and does a lot of stuff but they overlook some more basic "here's what happens if you slam the drive full all at once" tests. It COULD be done but outside of peak sequential numbers, storage just isn't that appealing to the average person. Especially when it's not performance limiting which it rarely is in a meaningful way.

Like no way in hell the average person could tell the difference between a normal system running a good high end PCIe 3, 4, and 5 drive. No normal consumer application is really gonna give a shit about bandwidth past that point, as long as the drive doesn't fall over not being able to keep up with writes. If you're NOT pushing that "I want a fast boot drive" thing, it's just "what can I get for cheap that isn't abnormally slow" and that's a messy thing to try and review as most brands are happy to swap supplier out from under you on the same model drive.

Nothing new in mechanical drives is worth touching at all. They're all overpriced. The only thing a reviewer could do is come out and say "stop buying new drives just get used as long as they're X cheap" and that makes you absolutely no friends.

Which is all to say: Good reviews COULD be done but no one gives a shit because it's not a good way to make a living.
