Wiztree, by Antibody Software, performs space visualization and treemapping in much the same way that WinDirStat and alternatives do, but it directly parses the NTFS Master File Table, allowing it to scan and show an entire drive in just a few seconds.
It is closed-source, and free for personal use. Download here. (Note for those who have problems with moving UI elements: the donate button on the upper right wiggles occasionally and is not removable without a donation.)
SpaceMonger.exe from way back in the day did this but on a spinning disk drive it took a while
Ooh, interesting, I haven't seen space analyzer that visualizes in rings before
Since I already use a third-party alternative to WinDirStat, I was curious just how much faster Wiztree is, so I ran a couple tests on my (always nearly full) 1TB SSD drive, and this is what I found (waiting until the visualizer appears, so in some cases a few seconds longer than the reported time to scan)
WinDirStat: 2 minutes 50 seconds
SpaceSniffer (my preferred tool): 45 seconds
Filelight (radial visualizer suggested by @lexi): 47 seconds
Wiztree: 9 seconds
So, yeah, it is impressively faster than the alternatives I tried, that said, I think I still prefer the visuals on SpaceSniffer - I kind of hate the pseudo-3D lensflare that WinDirStat and Wiztree use.
That said - great account! Looking forward to other useful tools I may not already have an alternative for.
I found this the other day and I really don't know why it took so long to find this over WinDirStat, it's a million times quicker and simpler
Thanks for the tip! I had Filelight, but didn't really like the interface for it. QDirStat is more my style.
