I don't want to make two posts so I'm just going to do them both in the same post even though they are only vaguely related.
First, if you even remotely think the centralization of the internet is a bad thing, then you should be willing to be in multiple places, as long as you don't think a specific place does not suck. There will never be another "everyone has twitter DMs" era and nor should there ever be. Consolidation of people to a single place gives the owners of that place too much damn power to start making things shit, and they should have the constant threat of "if you fuck up people will just go elsewhere" hanging over them.
This is true for lots of things. Hell it can be true about cohost if you like. I wish I knew where the "You should go start your own queer owned coop social platform. No really, it'd be great if we had more of those! Lots of them! Please!" chost went. In this case it's because both of the chat platforms I regularly use, Discord and Telegram, are both getting worse and worse and it takes people loudly bitching like myself to get things moving along. Not everyone will move, but some people still only use skype and that's their own loss.
Second, people being coy about piracy feels like some grade school shit and I hate it. Yeah we're here to play games for free and we wanna know how to do it. I feel like nowadays most of this stems just from big companies doing CYA and end users deciding to play along with the song and dance instead of just, idk, talking about it somewhere else. Yes this is about Discord too.
