I occasionally write long posts but you should assume I'm talking out of my ass until proved otherwise. I do like writing shit sometimes.

50/50 chance of suit pictures end up here or on the Art Directory account. Good luck.

Be 18+ or be gone you kids act fuckin' weird.

Like no seriously. The only person I've heard of using a tablet in the last 5 years for anything remotely serious is an artist using Procreate on it as their secondary art setup.

Aside from the portability, or perhaps one's preference for Procreate, I'm not sure what they're used for? I thought tablets quickly went from "new tech wonderproduct" to "it's for kids, and we make them kid proof now"?

I can think of a couple of other uses, but nothing that would require a "pro" ipad and nothing that couldn't be done on a used one.

in reply to @plumpan's post:

I pretty much just use mine for drawing and as an e-reader (using Kobo). But I also have a wifi-only model.
I know of people that use them as an alternative to taking a whole computer on trips, or if they know they're going to be sitting somewhere for a while, as a more comfortable way to browse the web or watch videos than on their phone.
I think I see tablets get used more in retail/service businesses by people working the floor or whatever, though.

So most of those uses I think can more or less be filled by like, a typical cheap tablet. I don't think apple makes a like $200 ipad... nope hang on.

ok $350 for a checks notes iPad no suffix 10th generation. I imagine movies play fine on a $100-200 tablet and any business use will sell you them at a good discount in bulk.

The computer substitute part I find interesting though. Depending on what needs to be done on the computer that could either work great or horribly... but do people really see ipads as more portable than a laptop? Especially if it's something one would be using a keyboard case for.

I think there's an element of Apple having a bit of a lock on the part of the market that's just, like, "normal" people, or people that aren't insane computer nerds like us. They can just go buy the iPad at the store and not really think about it because they got the Latest Generation and they're probably already used to it or iOS because of their iPhone. So the costs kinda don't matter as much, especially if you're only "upgrading" once every 5 years or so.

And that carries over into the computer substitute thing, the people I'm thinking about aren't going to worry about manipulating files or whatever on the go and really just use it for web and media. Like, my mom will use her iPad for web and media just around her house. Even with a case, an iPad is smaller and lighter than pretty much any laptop, and you only need a USB-C cable instead of a whole plug and power brick or whatever.

To be fair I am talking about lower end and not brand names… but experience with one crappy tablet about a decade ago (which sure was a while ago but from the sound of stuff it did not change much lol) and general experience with android phones make me just dread anything that has a cheap MSRP and uses android. Best case it’s just meh. Worst case you actively want to chuck the fucker against the wall.

My phone, Samsung A53 5g, mid range for about 350-450$? Well it’s pretty nice. It’s not like, amazing, but it’s perfectly fine for web, chatting and watching yt. I mostly just read random stuff on internet with it. But I will never buy anything from Samsung that’s too cheap :) Had too much shit experience.
