"gun enthusiasts" always act extremely normal when told that their prop guns can't look realistic at a con.
I really hope anything remotely realistic gets a hard ban. They can stay the fuck at home. Fuckin' weirdos.
I occasionally write long posts but you should assume I'm talking out of my ass until proved otherwise. I do like writing shit sometimes. ย

who the fuck is bringing prop firearms to a (presumably) furry convention??? what the fuck. fractally stupefying.
Some people really wanna "cosplay" I guess!
For context there was a picture of someone pointing a pretty realistic, but orange tipped, gun from FWA. Supposedly the prop owner and person holding it were not the same, and supposedly the owner was very unhappy about it. But the tip is barely visible from where they were.
The con just put out a thing saying "Hey we're going to revisit this policy for next year" just acknowledging the issue, and suddenly all the "gun enthusiasts" are coming out of the woodwork crying about their props and cosplays.
Already saw one make a comment about how "knowing most furries they'd have been at the Palestine protest" that was happening in another part of town, so y'know typical expected behavior.
nooooo you don't understand it's my le CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to scare the shit out of random people

Given how packed the con was this year, causing a crowd rush is an extremely real and tangible danger. More reason for stricter rules.
every time the prospect of banning gun props comes up some Extremely Mad individual is like "ok but what about [list of other things spotted at cons]"
NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAVE KILLED QUEER PEOPLE IN EXTREMELY RECENT MEMORY YOU PATHETIC DICKCHEESE
Honestly FWA is already too big, I see no reason not to make a very firm rule against "nope, nothing remotely realistic" and if that's too OfFeNsIvE for them then they can fuck off.
as someone who likes their firearms a decent amount, the absolute last place I'd ever want to bring something resembling one in full view of anyone else is a convention. people already have trouble acting normal and being responsible when not at one. this is just dumb, don't do it.
I was watching people lose their shit about this in a discord and there was a bit of chatter about how people felt like "they needed to carry a gun in downtown atlanta" and it sounds like some people might have had them in their rooms, which would get you removed from the hotel much less the con.
All of the pushback comes from people that act like this. I'd rather they not go to the cons I go to.
i've never seen a convention, ever, where carrying was allowed, concealed or otherwise. amusingly, that includes firearms industry conventions like SHOT Show.
anyway, this all sounds very familiar to me. it's gun bro shit and i am forever tired of gun bros. they do this kind of thing because they're reactionaries, the favorite activity of anyone too right-wing to think critically. they just Can't Stop Themselves from doing or saying shit like this.
part of me wonders if this has something to do with this perception I heard is a thing, the idea that if you disagree it makes you sound smarter, so people end up never growing up from their "i must disagree with what the teacher says" phase and just turn into reactionaries because they've never learned what critical thinking actually is. but that's a long and philosophical rant.
the practical advice i have is to never trust what a gun bro ever says. if they bring up constitutional rights when you bring up safety concerns, you can safely consider them untrustworthy morons. or unsafely, I suppose.
Let's be real, despite whatever excuse they may give, there is only one reason to do this and it is to cause disruption. It's a form of bullying, and nobody needs bullies around at a con.
