Oh, am I misunderstanding something? I thought it would scrunch the overall volume down to a set level. Or is that a compressor? Idk
This basically makes the max volume of the track whatever the limit is set to, so in this case anything that's above -8dB all gets crunched down. In this case, soft clipped, which sounds a lot better to my ears than one would think.
Make up gain then ads +8dB gain back onto that, so it's back to 0dB.
Basically, this is how you make shit loud. I actually like it even with some limiter or clip on it. At least for dance music that isn't already produced within an inch of it's life, I think it works really well.
