i am in a constant state of wanting to be like "have you heard of community dynamics" ala "have you heard of video games"
I know. You're right. But who else can I bother talking about the clever way Fallen London handle its own concept of the Great Chain of Being compared to how it was used in real life? Like, for most people that is nonsence! And it's how I find friend these days, by having a common interest. But, you are right. It is a problem, and it make people (including me) start to have weird opinion that could be resolved by touching grass.
the problem isn't that people aren't doing it with people they know -- it's that each of these communities is topic based but often has 60% overlap with other ones.
we just don't have the tools to make interlinked online communities yet. but once we do, well, support becomes much more ominous, there's more power in solidarity, etc
