making communities around every interest instead of having many interests exist in given communities sure does seem like it's own problem huh

i am in a constant state of wanting to be like "have you heard of community dynamics" ala "have you heard of video games"
I know. You're right. But who else can I bother talking about the clever way Fallen London handle its own concept of the Great Chain of Being compared to how it was used in real life? Like, for most people that is nonsence! And it's how I find friend these days, by having a common interest. But, you are right. It is a problem, and it make people (including me) start to have weird opinion that could be resolved by touching grass.
the problem isn't that people aren't doing it with people they know -- it's that each of these communities is topic based but often has 60% overlap with other ones.
we just don't have the tools to make interlinked online communities yet. but once we do, well, support becomes much more ominous, there's more power in solidarity, etc
Can agree with that muchly after the last time I got to go to a furry con. So many different people with different interests being shared. Visual art, plush crafts, comics, ttrpgs. Heck I even saw two people sharing their mutual love for professional photography, got a chance to see some interesting reptiles up close, and got to visit a room full of cleverly designed pool toys being showcased by one of the creators at the con. The one constant everyone being everyone having fun sharing their passion for different things and getting to hear about other people's passions.
I even once attended a legitimately fun panel about Ceres (the minor planet) at a furry convention. furry content of panel? zero, basically, but it was great to see that some enthusiastic astronomy fan just wanted to share a passion.
even in furry people segregate themselves by hobby/topic a lot right now.
or fractal discords.
and it's gaining speed, albeit slowly
