I think it might be in the nature of magic(k)al practice to think, "I ought to write my system down some day!" when there is in fact no system. I've had an absurd fondness for the "theory of improbability" that turns up in an Arthur Machen story, for the simple reason that there's no theory; Machen simply drops the idea into a tale and leaves it unexplained, which is perhaps appropriate for a "theory of improbability", but doesn't leave the reader much to work with.
unless perhaps it's working with the fact that Arthur Machen was (a) almost painfully Christian in his morality and (b) dabbled in the Golden Dawn anyway.
