I can't adequately describe how excited we felt when we finally realized that a battery is a separated chemical reaction. a reaction that might otherwise occur all at once, in solution or some other mixture, is separated into two halves and the reaction constrained to occur through the indirect means of electrical conduction.
I remember feeling at that moment that chemistry was badly taught, because electrochemistry had been made to seem a mysterious thing, this strange adjunct to proper chemistry only with electricity involved. but also we're bad learners.
