I moved to Seattle in 1999 partly to get away from the oppressive heat and endless sunshine of San Diego. I'd really gotten to hating the Sun in San Diego, in fact—it became part of the general misery of the place. San Diego was a hot stagnant place, a place without seasons, a place where awful people with lots of money bought themselves seaside resorts and kicked the common people off the beaches and then told themselves that they'd made it, they were in Heaven because it was always sunny.

Lately Seattle has been feeling too much like San Diego, and it's driving me quietly crazy. well, crazier than usual. it's like the gods are playing tricks on me.
