It's Phil Dick's famous short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale", which means it's The Future™! people have been to Mars! in fact, going to Mars is such an established thing that you can buy memory-recordings of being on Mars!...and there's still carbon paper and the Hermes Rocket.

we'd love to own a Hermes Rocket. it has mythic resonance.
