I've been trawling through scraps of ancient childhood memories, trying to get back the earliest possible experiences of reading books or watching TV. revisiting "The Hardy Boys" has been part of that project, especially because I remember it as a shared interest with my sibling. I mean...a pair of brother detectives? of course we were into it. I even vaguely remember a quixotic notion about reading them all in order, but I don't think we actually got far with that...instead I remember reading a scattering of volumes from the public library.

one single phrase stuck in my head some from particular "Hardy Boys" book—rather like how I remembered The Active-Enzyme Lemon-Freshened Junior High School Witch from a couple phrases. strange how such tiny things linger in memory...anyway, now I know what it came from. and ugh...this is gonna be BAD isn't it?

merciful heavens. I'm still smarting from the "every Italian in Bayport knows about the Black Hand" stuff from The Tower Treasure.
