for a while they ditched the old Julian / Gregorian names for the months and came up with a slate of new names drawn from the seasons and the climate, so you had cool names like Fructidor (the fruity month! roughly August/September) and Thermidor (the hot month! July/August). there were a lot of other calendrical changes I don't remember. certain Revolutionary events are remembered chiefly by these named months. I like the names a lot... ~Chara
