"oopsie, almost made it..." xD just before i thought that, i was scrolling down the page thinking to myself i should maybe make a "wow, not a single chost about that double whammy surrounding the elongated muskrat, first the rocket goes up in flames and now burning his tiny reputation with his dumb opinions" and then, there you are xD but really it was only i matter of pagination... anyhow, wtf mate? wtf. i have a server running and call the private parts usually along the lines of "the shed", while the public bit usually is called frontyard or something... so i absolutely get the clubhouse mentality and idk how to avoid it, though i only just started it up again using xmpp after having switched to matrix and now back from matrix... makes sense? anyways, for one, that element corp now getting matrix or something? no thanks, and b) wtf is wrong with synapse eating up all the ram and then all the hdd and even when federation is turned off? do you want to chat we me via xmpp? XD maybe?
we have no experience with either XMPP or Matrix but we can change that. 👍
I've idly wondered if there's any sort of intermediate or alternative ground to be found, in terms of computerized social media, between "individual server or instance" and "big centralized aggregation of users", but I'm not good at these things ~Chara
well, as far as i know xmpp works more like email than anything..also there are many more xmpp users than matrix, on the other hand?... that isnt very accurate actually..... just reading about apple using it too for push notifications?? ...well and also admittedly, the end to end encryption landscape looks dire ~.~ or at least to me because i only remember otr and havent touched omemo ever, so maybe it is good but why do i say dire, if i know of otr? well, otr is kinda bad, but in clients i checked so far i find only mention of pgp, openpgp and omemo, but no otr... i guess one uses another and the third also appeared along omemo and now we got two that sound similar, one of which was kinda crap and used to be called different and a new one everyone can tell apart from the other two but at least i have no experience interacting with. neat. XD and weirdly familiar.. and weirdly not oh and of course i have not yet read a manual regarding the various encryption modes, but it is late here now so i will go to bed and hope to read you later
ok, turns out the pgp variant is obsolete and openpgp is only recommended for exploratory use...
if you have no account on another server, i can host you, but i havent figured out how to allow anyone but the admin to set their password yet and i dont want to allow inband registration (as this would probably lead to spam accounts on my host...) so idk how to best set you up and protect your privacy with more than a "trust me, i wont look" ... oh and the webinterface is funny too, the set-password-field displays the entered password in the clear until it's submitted..
for what it's worth: we set ourselves up with an XMPP account on some server we'd never heard of before yesterday. pnictogen-wing@sure.im
