I really hope Marty Scorsese somehow outlives me, but it seems unlikely. I don't know if he's my favorite filmmaker of all time, but he's been like...how do I put it? he's been one of my links back to humanity and morality. his work overflows with compassion, and I feel like I've been depriving myself out of his later films out of fear that they wouldn't live up to Taxi Driver or The King of Comedy. but both Shutter Island and The Aviator have blown me away. he's like Kurosawa; he just keeps on making great movies. it's like he can't help himself.

and some day, maybe some day soon, he'll be gone. I'm crying already and it hasn't even happened yet.
