please remember that Valve, fucking Valve begged every major company after half life 1 & the success of counter strike to help them or build for them a digital storefront & deliver platform for games

everyone turned them down and so they did it themselves. then those companies scrambled to try to overcome not having done this first. and now valve is like, the richest privately held company on the planet
that’s not praise for valve (they’re clever, but it’s just right time right place) it’s a horrific indictment of how utterly useless the “tech elite” and billionaires actually are. they stumble into success because they can afford to have failures that would eclipse the combined failures of millions of us
this is like the electric company turning away the first person to invent artificial electric light because “who would want that we have candles!!”
