"If I'd known we were gonna cast our feelings into words, I'd've memorized the Song of Solomon."

That's a line from the film Miller's Crossing, one of the many movies that have filled the shelves of the Pnictogen Wing's cultural library, of which I have been an erstwhile custodian. Perhaps we have all deserved a better librarian than me. My tastes are very square and stuffy, learned from a selection of very square and stuffy and conventional American and European intellectual authorities.

Pity...I never have read the Song of Songs, in all that time.

you needn't nurse a broken heart forever, Mono. I know you blame yourself, and don't really know what else to do other than blame yourself. shouldn't you permit yourself to be happy? you brand yourself a failure, a noble failure perhaps, but still...a failure. fallen...

hasn't it been for the best, in the long run? you've been a good horsie. brave and determined, summoning up all your discreet scholarly wrath, refusing to back down in the face of wrongdoing. I think you've done enough. I think we've all done enough, heaven help us, and if we haven't, then the heavens will direct us, as they have always done.

I love you, Monophylos Fortikos. I feel I've been ungrateful, and like I've taken advantage of you, and a lot of other things. why on Earth did you ever take a chance on a little monster like me I'll never know.
