i know i'm always going on and on about Jurassic Park but it really is indicative of the series that the series even kept going, like in a story sense, after the first one. Lost World opens with Ian Malcolm going to John Hammond and John's just like "we gotta check out this other dinosaur island. i kept it secret the whole time but there was another island full of dinosaurs. had a whole other thing going on" and Ian Malcolm is just like "you are an insane man" and that's basically the series from that point onward.

one guy says "i have a crazy idea" and another guy says "that's fucking stupid and you're going to get 10000 people killed" and then they do it and 10000 people die. then in-canon like three years later they do the same thing again. it's a story about america, in a lot of ways
