Left-wingers: Many of the problems the common citizen faces are to be blamed on capitalism and the wealthy.

Pundits: This is an extremist, pie-in-the-sky delusion! This is misleading, populist sophistry! You are painting with such a broad brush that any and all kernels of truth that there might have been to your argument have been eradicated! The world isn't so simple that you can just blame all of society's ills on a singular bogeyman!

Right-wingers: Many of the problems the common citizen faces are to be blamed on wokeism, minorities and immigrants.

Pundits: Hmm, yes, we must acknowledge the legitimate concerns behind these kinds of generalizing statements and attempt to reach some kind of compromise. Unfortunately, no one seems willing to do this!

This attitude usually comes packaged with an implication that leftists speak only for themselves and "normal" people don't even understand much less endorse them, but rightists always have a silent majority standing behind them.

Interestingly, even when the writer sides with the leftists this can still seep through, like you need some sort of advanced degree in Bolshevism to be capable of thinking thoughts like "sure would be nice if my taxes paid for fewer missiles and more hospitals"
