you ever think about how the (often Very Christian) belief of 'dont use swear words, they'll lose their power' maybe means at least some of that sort of person are the type who thinks 'sucks' still means 'sucks cock' and want it to remain that way.

new people ('the next generation') learning the words through use before they know the meanings mean most of them get decontextualized. A lot of people seem to think that's a bad thing, but I think it fucking rules.

oh yeah. in a way, the mere fact they're complaining and making demands about using common vulgarities disproves their claim: the words have power, including the power to make right-wing Christians whinge about how things they don't like ought to be made illegal or at least taboo. if they wanted to lessen the power of the words, wouldn't it be better if they didn't throw snit-fits about them?
