Click here for into on FRLG+

This is a very cool hack based on a decompilation of FRLG, adding a lot of QOL features like auto-running, faster text, skipped battle intros, a version switch that lets you catch exclusives, extra item pockets in your bag (separating Medicine from general items), etc.

So this time Surge's 2nd Pokemon is an Electabuzz with Ice Punch. Nutmeg got paralyzed when it took out his Voltorb, so I was stuck. Cayenne wasn't able to take it down the next turn. Other than that, with a little luck, I got the rest of his team down.

It's honestly really hard to keep up with these curveballs. I'm not sure what you're supposed to do to handle Electabuzz at this point in the game... I guess have a stronger Normal type like Raticate at this point, but I sadly lost Cinnamon while grinding.

The reusable TMs are so clutch. I'm teaching everything Secret Power, plus Dig and Brick Break if they can learn it.

side note: how long before Cohost starts hiding the rechosts, this is getting long

First of all, as version exclusives go, I've been trying to switch when I remember. I think I started with FireRed until I beat Brock, then swapped to LeafGreen, and after Surge I swapped back to FR. I think I'll swap back to LG after Koga, and play the rest of the game like that. I had FR growing up, so it only seems fair to play mostly in LG mode.

Anyway, to keep with the spirit of Nuzlocke, I randomized from 1-6 (Eevee + 5 Game Corner prizes) to decide what I get here! I got a 4, which means Dratini.

So here's the team I went with to fight Erika. I got wiped by her Victreebel and Vileplume's combo of Sleep Powder and Sludge Bomb spam, plus Vileplume using Moonlight to heal often. I couldn't do it. Since it was a total wipe, I'm going to use my backup team and see if I can make it work if I grind them up to 32.

I worked out a cheese strat where I'd use Attract with Basil, since all of Erika's Pokemon are female. Then I'd fish for Paralysis with Secret Power. I eventually lost Basil in the struggle, but I did one funny thing. To avoid taking so much damage from Sludge Bomb this time, after I paralyzed her Victreebel, I'd switch to Carraway and use Magnitude for the KO. She also has Tangela like usual and Parasect, so I couldn't do it again.

If I wipe again I'm probably going to just continue without Nuzlocke rules, just no healing mid-battle and only grind to match Gym Leader/E4 levels and see just how wild this Challenge Mode gets.

Okay I actually didn't catch anything in the Safari Zone, oops.

Between the Pokemon Tower and Cycling Road I caught Pepper the Cubone, Oregano the Doduo, and I knocked out one of the Snorlax on Route 12 (the one on Route 16 wasn't my first encounter). On Route 15 I ran into a Ditto which transformed into Dragonair, so I failed to catch it.

Then I went south to Route 19 to fish up a Horsea, who I named Horseradsh - 10 char limit :/ I also grabbed all the items in the Safari Zone, including Surf and the false teeth you exchange for Strength. For now, Paprika knows Surf and the Ice Beam TM I picked up at Celadon.

I lost Pepper to the first gym trainer with a level 41 Hypno using Psychic. In the meantime, I caught Lavender the Venonat on Route 14, Dill the Raticate on Route 18, and fished up Fenugreek the Psyduck in Pallet Town. That last one seems odd, but I'm going by the in-game rules, which mark the first encounter with a red 1 next to their health bar.

I'm going to grind everyone up to 43 and try to clear out the gyms before fighting Koga or Sabrina, since they both cap at level 46. Carraway and Paprika are in the PC, along with Mace the Hitmonlee (I rolled a 2 for the Saffron gift mons, 1 being Lapras, 2 being Hitmonlee, and 3 being Hitmonchan).
