hello, here is my latest field report on how i don't like bluesky. the recommendation algorithms are so fucking busted over there. i don't know if it's just because the site is still so small that it doesn't know what to do other than show me random posts with 10-20 likes, but either way it blows
the site seems to have figured out that i'm a furry, but this means that i'll get recommended a random short text post about how OP likes vore with five likes, or a piece of diaper fetish art with ten likes. or maybe i'll just see a random furry posting the word "meow" with five likes. having adult content enabled also means that i see a LOT of random strangers' dick pics with only a handful of likes, because the complete faith people have in the automated nsfw content filtering means that a lot of bluesky users just post hog on main
honestly, the haphazard way content will get recommended to me makes me severely question bluesky's viability as a platform for furry artists (and, well, human beings in general, really). it feels WAY too easy for posts to leave their intended audience. who knows what random people are getting recommended your niche porn - especially when the nsfw filtering doesn't always recognize furry porn (and sure as fuck doesn't recognize fetish art with no nudity), you can't manually put a clickthrough content warning on your own post, and you can't make your account private
beyond these concerns, the posts aren't much better on the optional "what's hot classic" feed that bluesky veterans (read: people who have had accounts for a few months longer than i have) seem to prefer. on that feed i see a lot of small snippets of drama and discourse i have absolutely no interest in. people talking about blocking each other, receipts on how other users on the site suck, isolated bits of arguments, that sort of thing. always complete strangers. i have no idea why i'm being recommended these things. i'll even get recommended other posts from random people saying their feeds are covered in references to drama they don't know the origins of
it's not good, is what i'm getting at
