the meta-discourse around baldur's gate 3 is maybe the most annoying gaming discourse i've seen in ages. everything i see is like indie devs and other people being like "yeah this is an incredible game, but don't expect everyone to have that kind of time and budget, particularly for all those cutscenes. let's just celebrate what larian accomplished without weaponizing it against other devs" and then people respond with "well i'm not saying it's setting a new standard for games because of its scope and polish, i'm sayng that because it doesn't have a battle pass or loot boxes! are you defending predatory monetization??? ugh, typical contempt for the common gamer!!!!" and it's like. these are completely different conversations. you are just talking past each other
