i really do feel like the sonic fandom is becoming more and more insular and narrow-minded as a very loud subset of fans on social media lean harder into a very specific brand of Japanese Sonic purism. even as someone who likes that particular game, i often wonder what it looks like to outsiders when sonic fans on twitter are like "the one game that should be held up as the gold standard for sonic writing, the thing that everything else should be trying to emulate in tone and dialogue... is sonic and the black knight for the wii"

beggin all sonic fanz 2 stop carin so much bout ThePure Japanese Sonic Vision and cryin bout howmuch sonic suckz and instead try consumin new media taht isnt sonic . .. this multimillion dollar franchise is over30 yearz old, it aint worth goin crazy over like that. . .

people piece together what they THINK sega of japan's vision for sonic is/was, but it's really selective. like, you'll never see people hold up the old manga from the '90s where sonic is a superhero that the timid hedgehog "nicky" can transform into sometimes as What Sonic Should Be, even though that was literally the series where amy debuted. in reality, even if the games have always had some continuity, sega's only figuring out how cohesive they want that continuity to be, like. now
