One thing I find interesting about the Skybound Transformers book is it illustrates how much execution of ideas matters: a cliffnotes summary of what's happened comes off as a lot edgier (hell, even more specifically what some people were cynically expecting out of "Robert Kirkman's Transformers") than how it actually feels when reading it.

this is very true. it'd be easy to hear about moments like "sparkplug witwicky has war flashbacks" or "starscream brutally tears apart one of his subordinates for spare parts" or a certain upgrade optimus got at the end of issue 4 and read it as kind of a tryhard fanfic based on an old kids' cartoon, but everything is done with so much heart and skill and it's so clear how much fun DWJ is having with the series. there's not an ounce of cynicism here. it's such a blast to read every month, and i'm glad it's showing people that transformers media is more than just a silly '80s cartoon and a bunch of loud, dumb michael bay movies
