i paid for an aftermath sub for like a month or two because i like some of the writers they have over there and they posted a few interesting pieces and i wanna support independent games writing, but it's like. idk. they're free from the shackles of corporate media and most of what they're doing is just mid-length blog posts about the same big releases everyone else is also writing about, or commentary on the latest thing one of the writers saw people get mad about on games twitter this week (the yellow paint discourse, the new york times "spoiling" ff7, palworld discourse, etc.). it feels like they're still just writing bread and butter kotaku articles, just on another site

in reply to @ponett's post:

that's a shame, there's a critical lack of much coverage these days on indie games (let alone the alt-games scene), and just not much in-depth writing about the medium in a broader sense than whatever the topic of the week is

they DO have some "hey check out this cool thing i played" type indie coverage, which i appreciate. but yeah, like 90% of it is just the typical commentary on the news of the week
