@P-Tux7 asked:

bobby what are your thoughts on the non-feature animation industry being 90% subsidized by south korean animators

my main thought related to this is that i wish more armchair cartoon critics would realize that the inconsistencies in a lot of modern shows (e.g. the years of heated discourse over the height inconsistencies in steven universe) come from the fact that storyboarders are basically being forced to do the keyframe animatics themselves at a breakneck pace when they should just be doing little scribbles, and then their work is sent over to the korean teams who are just told to stick as close as possible to the storyboards with little room for their own creative input

in reply to @ponett's post:

I feel like a lot of people forget about Philippine studios as well; like the 90% figure would be less hyperbolic if it was used to represent shows outsourced to Korea, the Philippines, and Canada (not to be confused with shows Canada makes themselves) combined

really wish animation was a subsidized industry in the US so that this level of outsourcing wasn't necessary. it's one of those fields that should just be an encouraged practice for creative cultural enrichment
